About Lore

Lore is a free bird quiz that teaches you to recognise birds from real photos. Pick your region, play short rounds and learn the birds that live around you. It works in your browser on a phone or a computer, so there is nothing to install.

How Lore works

• Real photos. 11,009 bird species in 39 countries and regions, with photos taken by birders.
• Guides. Ready-made guides for common birds, summer and winter visitors, birds by family and more. Make your own guide too.
• Daily mystery bird. Clues first, the photo last. A new bird every day.
• Challenges. Play the same birds as your friends in a group, or join the open Ultimate Birders' Challenge.
• Bird names in 26 languages, and the app itself in English and Dutch.

Questions

Is Lore free? Yes. Lore is free, has no ads and is made as a hobby by a birder.

Do I need an account or an app? No. You can play a round right away in your browser. An account only saves your progress and puts you on the leaderboards.

Where do the photos come from? From iNaturalist and Wikimedia Commons, under Creative Commons licences. Every photo is credited in the game. See the photo credits.
