The key marks
A brown thrush with a grey-brown breast, a bright orange-rufous belly, a yellow-orange bill and a white throat with dark streaks. Pale-breasted Thrush is much paler and buffy below, with only a little rufous on the flanks.
Voice
A rich, fluty, whistled song with repeated phrases.
Good to know
It is the national bird of Brazil.
Do not confuse with
Compare it with the Pale-breasted Thrush. Look at the marks above one by one rather than the overall colour, and practise telling the two apart with real photos.
Where and when
You can expect to find it in gardens, parks and woodland edge. It is especially common in Brazil and Argentina. Distribution changes with the seasons and from year to year, so check a recent local observation source before you go looking.
