The key marks
Pale grey tanager with a dusty blue wash on the wings and tail and no other markings. Blue-gray Tanager has a bluer body with bright turquoise-blue wings, shoulders and tail that stand out from its paler body.
Voice
High, thin, squeaky chirps and a simple twittering song.
Good to know
A common garden bird in Brazil and neighbouring countries that readily visits fruit feeders.
Do not confuse with
Compare it with the Blue-gray Tanager. Look at the marks above one by one rather than the overall colour, and practise telling the two apart with real photos.
Where and when
You can expect to find it in gardens, parks and forest edges. It is especially common in Brazil. Distribution changes with the seasons and from year to year, so check a recent local observation source before you go looking.
