Bird photo quiz: practise with real photographs
Practise bird identification with a browser photo quiz. Choose a regional guide for personal practice or play a shared challenge in Lore.

A photo quiz is most useful when its birds match what you want to learn. Open Guides and pick a region, season or smaller collection. Start locally, prepare a trip or focus on a group that interests you. A country guide is a learning collection, not a report of today’s sightings.
Look before reading the choices
Pause on the image and describe the bird before checking the answer choices. Name a visible shape or pattern and make your choice. When the answer appears, compare it with the clue you used. A correct guess and a confident identification can look identical in a score, so keep track of your uncertainty.
Use personal practice or a shared challenge
Lore’s personal practice uses saved progress to select new, difficult and due birds. Personal rounds have at most fifteen questions and may be shorter. Challenges use their own rules; in the Ultimate Birders’ Challenge, everyone plays the same birds. Choose the format that suits your aim.

Lore works on a phone or computer without installing an app. You can begin as a guest and use an account to save progress across devices. Photo credits and licence information remain with the practice material. Revisit a difficult species using another photo rather than memorising one background.
